Call for Facilitators: Organizational Development and Systems Strengthening (ODSS)at ICON Data and Learning Labs

ICON Data and Learning (IDL) is seeking dynamic and experienced facilitators to support our ongoing mission of promoting data-driven community transformation for sustainable development through Organizational Development and Systems Strengthening (ODSS). IDL invite applications from experts who can deliver high-quality training in the following areas:

About ICON Data and Learning

IDL is a youth-led, community-focused non-profit organization based in Western Kenya. Our work centers on advancing data literacy, incubating data-driven innovations, and strengthening the capacity of local organizations and individuals to drive sustainable development.

Assignment Overview

Facilitators will design and deliver engaging training sessions and workshops tailored to the needs of IDL staff, partners, and beneficiaries. The goal is to enhance organizational effectiveness, improve internal systems, and build sustainable skills in each of the focus areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver practical, interactive training modules (in-person and/or virtual) for groups of up to 30 participants.
  • Collaborate with the IDL team leads to tailor content to the local context and specific learning needs.
  • Facilitate group discussions, activities, and feedback sessions.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and propose improvements for future sessions.
  • Provide coaching and ongoing support to participants as needed.

Areas of Expertise Sought:

  • Finance Management: Budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls (including policies).
  • Human Resource Management: Recruitment, performance management, staff development, and HR policies.
  • Data Governance: Data governance framework, open data governance, and responsible data use.
  • Scientific Research Approaches: Research design, methodology, ethics, and dissemination/publication.
  • Advocacy: Strategy development, stakeholder engagement, and policy influence.
  • Resource Mobilization: Fundraising strategies, grant writing, and partnership development.
  • Governance: Organizational structures, decision-making processes, and accountability mechanisms.

Note: The description of the areas of expertise sought is not final and may be adjusted based on organizational needs and facilitator input before signing of an agreement.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field, or a bachelor’s degree with at least 7 years of professional experience in the relevant area.
  • Proven experience in designing and facilitating training or workshops in the relevant area.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and group facilitation skills.
  • Ability to adapt content and delivery to diverse audiences and learning styles.
  • Experience working with nonprofits, youth, or community-based organizations is an advantage.
  • For some roles, experience with organizational change management and systems strengthening is preferred.

Contract Details

  • Duration: Short-term consultancy within the months of July and August 2025 (specific dates to be determined in consultation with selected facilitators).
  • Location: Kisumu, Kenya, with options for remote facilitation where appropriate.
  • Compensation: Competitive, based on experience and scope of work. Facilitators will invoice monthly for actual days worked.
  • Compensation: The daily facilitator rate is set from KES 10,000 per day, competitive and based on experience and scope of work. Facilitators will invoice for actual days worked.
